About Artist Statement
Creating art is a natural form of communication and therapy for me. I use the camera lens to express a mixture of inspiration, spirituality and fascination. I have always been intrigued by mysterious topics like the unconscious mind and existentialism. The creation of abstract realism allows me to explore two contrasting realms at once. A realm that is entirely interconnected and one that is not. The inter-connectivity and realism lies within the actual existence and metaphor of the subject. The abstract composition which makes a subject unfamiliar and the isolated exploration to find subjects represents the disconnection.

My abstract nature photo work is created while hiking or exploring after my inhibitions have freely dissipated. During this naturally heightened and relaxed state of mind, I become in tune with my surroundings and breathe in the experience. I then search for metaphors within organic subjects such as lichen, silt and rock. Numerous parallels of life come to mind before a composition is discovered such as chaos, order, contrast, texture, rhythm, pattern, balance, unbalance, birth and death. Above all, I am hunting for evidence of wisdom through an abstract natural vision.

My montage work is a culmination of artistic techniques, religious/political research and a love for nature. The techniques I am using to create this work combine the many different mediums I’ve explored over the years, printmaking, sculpture, photography and graphic design. The montages represent visionary reflections of my personal experiences.
